What else could I bake on Good Friday? Hot Cross Buns may be a once a year treat or may be eaten any time from Christmas to Easter but making your own certainly makes them special.
This year I tried a new recipe, one of Paul Hollywood’s, and they were certainly delicious. He adds diced apple which I found difficult to incorporate so maybe I’ll leave that out next time. I also used a simple sugar and water glaze instead of the apricot jam glaze in the recipe.
Whichever recipe you use it takes time for the buns to prove but it’s worth it, they are so much nicer than any you can buy in the shops. It’s worth the trouble of piping flour and water paste crosses
